My last day in Jogja, until June.
If you have been reading this blog (or know me) you know I have to move on from Jogja tomorrow morning. Staying in Asia but decided to travel and volunteer while my man is doing eight weeks of work on Mt Merapi. My visa also expires on Thursday.
This last week in Jogja has been good fun, although I became sick in Borneo last weekend, and in turn made all my housemates sick too.
We managed to do it a bit of partying last week, that may have hampered our recovery. Especially the loud karaoke that lead me to lose my voice, followed by a big boozey party the next night. Honestly I didn't do much more than that during the week- I needed to rest.
Saturday I had put my hand up to volunteer at what I was told was an orphanage. When I was picked up from Jalan Kaliurang, it turned out it was for a school camp at an Orangutang rehabilitation centre an hour out of Jogja. The camp was to encourage the school kids to use their english and be inspired to pursue their futures as they grow into adolescents. I had no idea that there was the orangutang rehab centre in Jogja, they could increase their profit by promoting tourism. Although I felt it was not such a good experience as in Sarawak, it would attract tourists who've never seen them before. It was a pity their cages were so small. I felt sad for them but I'm sure it is better than some other circumstances they would have been in otherwise. I enjoy working with children & it has been very rewarding doing so over here. I look forward to Thailand & helping out there. Hand hygiene will be interesting though.. I need to buy some gloves for nappy changing etc.

I can't believe it's been eight weeks & I'm leaving. I like the community we have here but I really do need more to do with my time. If I had found a regular volunteer job I would have tried again with my visa & stayed because I really like it here now. But the world is vast & so much of it is is close to me here in Asia that it would be a pity not to explore it!
Plus GP this weekend! I am following Redbull to cheer on an aussie since Kovalainen doesn't seem to be top knotch at the moment. Woo can't wait... And I am excited to eat different foods. Indian food in KL is goodness. And a bit of shopping too. I would like a new bag & shoes.. yes I am excited for KL. Kota Baru should hopefully be relaxing and it will be great to spend a few days close to the beach before I head to landlocked Chiang Mai in northern Thailand with it's 40 degree days in April.
Still undecided after that.. Laos perhaps.. Cambodia.. whatever is easiest to get to. Must sort it all out today.
Sampai nanti Jogjakarta! Sampai Juni... Saya rindu semua kawan-kawan saya baru di sini dan juga saya pindu pecar (suami) saya.
